In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, every four years, the Town Clerk as Returning Officer conducts elections for the offices of:
- Mayor
- District Councillors (3)
- Town Councillors (5)
- School Board Trustees (4)

Nominations will be accepted during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) beginning on Monday January 4, 2010 through to 2:00 p.m. on Friday September 10, 2010 (weekends and statutory holidays excluded) for the offices of:
Nominations on the prescribed form may be filed in the Clerk's Office, Town of Bracebridge, 1000 Taylor Court, Bracebridge, Ontario.
Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act "A person may only be nominated for an office if, as of the day the person is nominated:
- he or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it
- he or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office."
All Candidates must submit the required Nomination Paper (Word version or pdf version) and Declaration of Qualification (Municipal Council Candidates / School Board Trustee Candidates) and the following must be provided at the time of filing:
- The prescribed filing fee (cash, debit, certified cheque, bank draft or money order) in the amount of $200 for the office of Mayor, or $100 for all other offices
- Candidate Identification - any one (1) of the following will be considered as acceptable identification provided it is valid and contains the candidate’s name, qualifying address and signature:
- An Ontario driver’s licence.
- An Ontario Health Card (photo card).
- An Ontario motor vehicle permit (plate portion).
- A cancelled personalized cheque.
- A mortgage, lease or rental agreement.
- An insurance policy.
- A loan or financial agreement with a financial institution.
- A document issued or certified by a court in Ontario.
- Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government.
- Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
Note: Identification that requires the person to write in an address is not acceptable identification (e.g. Canadian Passport).
No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes, or incur campaign expenses, until that person has filed a Nomination form with the Town Clerk.
QUALIFICATION OF ELECTORS
On voting day a person is qualified to be an elector if he or she:
· Is a Canadian citizen
· Is at least 18 years old
· Resides in Bracebridge or is the owner or tenant of land in Bracebridge, or the spouse of such person
· Is not prohibited from voting because he or she:
· Is serving a sentence of imprisonment
· Is a corporation
· Is acting as an executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity
· Was convicted of a corrupt practice described in Section 90(3) of the MEA
NOT ON THE LIST? Electors may make application to amend the Voters’ List in person or by mail, to the Clerk on the prescribed form (Application to Amend Voters' List) during regular office hours up to and including October 22, 2010 and from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 25, 2010. Applications must be completed in full and bear the original signature of the applicant. Applications must be accompanied by a legible copy of suitable identification as stipulated in the Identification Requirements for Voters form. Incomplete applications or those not accompanied by suitable identification will not be processed.
