Licences & Permits

The Town requires a business licence to be obtained prior to any of the following types of businesses operating anywhere within the Town of Bracebridge:

 

1)      A Transient Trader (also known as “temporary sales” or “hawkers and peddlars”) whether from a fixed location or on a door to door basis
2)      A Refreshment vehicle or cart (for such things as hot dogs, French fries, ice cream and the like)
3)      A Dog kennel (for boarding, breeding, grooming, training or a combination thereof)
4)      A Taxi-Cab (please note that no licences are presently available for issuance– only 16 licences are available and all are issued at this time)

How to Obtain a Marriage Licence

Couples wishing to be married in Ontario must apply for a marriage licence. The licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.

To get a marriage licence, you will need to:

1. Fill out a marriage licence application form, signed and dated by both applicants.

2. Make an appointment with a marriage licence issuer at the Town of Bracebridge. Appointments are available weekdays: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

3. Bring the completed application form with supporting original valid identification and documents on  the day of the appointment (see marriage licence requirements link below).

4. Licence fee of $135.00 is payable by Cash or Debit.

  

Although not required, both parties are encouraged to attend when obtaining a marriage licence. The marriage licence will be issued the same day providing all documentation is complete.

Please note that the Town of Bracebridge issues marriages licences but currently does not perform civil marriage ceremonies.

How to obtain a Lottery Licence


A lottery has the following components: a prize, a chance to win the prize, and a consideration or fee. Eligible applicants must be licensed to conduct a lottery event.

 

The Town of Bracebridge through the Clerk's Branch is responsible for the licensing of the following lottery schemes:


• Bingo events with prize boards up to $5,500.00
• Raffles with prizes up to $50,000.00
• Break Open Ticket events that are not conducted in conjunction with another licensed gaming event
• Bazaar gaming events
• Media Bingo

How to obtain a Special Event Permit


The Town of Bracebridge recognizes the benefits of special events in enhancing our community and in providing economic benefits to our business community and also the need to provide some guidelines for the overall health, safety and protection of our citizens.

 

Special events within the Town of Bracebridge such as parades, exhibitions, fairs, street festivals are all co-ordinated through the Clerk's Branch of the Aministration and Finance Department. Notice of these events are circulated to the respective departments and agencies for comment to ensure all regulations and legislation are adhered to. The Clerk's Branch also ensures a liability insurance policy naming The Corporation of the Town of Bracebridge as a name insured in the minimum amount of 2 million dollars. A $45 dollar administrative fee payable to the Town of Bracebridge is required before any applications will be processed.

Entrance Permits - See By-law 82-34 Schedule 6.· These permits are available from the department at 1000 Taylor·Court.· ·Property owners or their representatives make this application in person.· Full property description is required.· Any additions or alternations to the roadside at the point of entrance are the owner's responsibility at their expense. Where a culvert is required, it must be plastic (Boss 2000 or equivalent).· Permit fee effective January 2009 is $220.00 ($110 deposit refundable upon completion to the satisfaction of the Public Works Foreman).· Entrance Permit Application Form

 

Roadway Occupation Permits - See By-law 82-34 Schedule 3.6.· These permit forms are available from the department at·1000 Taylor·Court and can be faxed to (705)-645-7525 or mailed for approval.· There is a $100.00 fee for private permits (i.e. not utilities) effective January 2009.·Roadway Occupation Permit Form.  For information contact the Public Works Department.


Overload Permits- Written approval is required for any load wider than·2.6 metres·and higher than 4.15 metres travelling over municipal roads.· Please note that the Ministry of Transportation, OPP and the District of Muskoka may also need to be contacted.  Overload Permit Application Form  Oversize Permit Application Form   For more information contact the Public Works Department.

 

Release of Liability Ditching Material- When ditching operations are being performed, it may be possible to provide the excavated material to property location in the immediate vicinity.  Property owners are required to submit the form Release of Liability Roadside Ditching.  For more information contact the Public Works Department.

 

Request for Banner on Silver Bridge -  Requests are dealt with on a first come first served basis. Optimal size for banners is between 22-24 feet wide (but not wider than 24 feet) and not more than 3 1/2 feet high and will be made with lots of grommets for the purpose of installation.  For more information contact the Public Works Department. 

 

 

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) processes and issues Liquor Licences. As part of the process of applying for a new or expansion of a Liquor Licence, the applicant is required to have the following completed:

 

AGCO Municipal Information Form

  • Download the Municipal Information Form or visit the AGCO website at www.agco.on.ca.

  • The applicant must complete Section 1.

  • The Applicant must then submit the completed form and the $17 dollar application fee to the Municipal Clerk for processing.

  • PLEASE NOTE: The Municipal Clerk will then circulate the form from Wednesday to Wednesday on the Town's Correspondence Circulation.

  • The Municipal Office completes Section 2 including a signature from the Municipal Clerk (or designate) and prepares a letter of non-objection.

  • The completed Municipal Information Form and letter of non-objection is returned to the applicant for processing to the AGCO
