The Planning and Development Department works to develop a safe, sustainable community with economic opportunities for residents and businesses. The Department develops strategies, plans and policies to shape the look and overall design of the Town.
The Planning and Development Department provides professional services in:
- land use planning
- building construction
- community improvement
- community marketing
- economic development
- tourism and culture promotion and development
The Planning and Development Department consists of 3 Branches:
Planning Services Branch |

The Planning Services Branch is responsible for the review and administration of applications for planning approvals in accordance with Town's Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and a variety of other policies and matters under various pieces of Provincial legislation including:
The administration and planning related functions with respect to the Committee of Adjustment for Consents and the Committee of Adjustment for Minor Variances are also the responsibility of this Branch. The Planning Services Branch is also responsible for the administration, development, maintenance, training and implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as the database program. |
Building Services Branch |
| The Building Services Branch ensures that any building activities requiring a building permit, among others, are carried out in accordance with the Building Code Act. The Branch is also responsible for the enforcement of regulations under the Property Standards By-law, Comprehensive Zoning By-law, the Town's Sign By-law and a variety of other development related regulations. |
Economic Development Branch |
| The Economic Development Branch is responsible for the attraction of new businesses to the Town of Bracebridge as well as encouraging the expansion and retention of existing businesses within the community. The Branch provides support and assistance for tourism promotion and marketing, sport tourism, and cultural initiatives, including festivals and events.
In addition to economic development programming for the community, the Branch oversees the operation of the Muskoka Small Business Centre. Bracebridge's Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is promoted and administered by the Economic Development Branch. |
