Signage Improvement Grant
Availability
Available to commercial, industrial, and mixed-use properties in the entire CIP area. This program is also available to hotels and motels within the CIP area.
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to promote improvement of the physical condition and visual aesthetic of private buildings and properties through the addition of new or improved business signage. The Town may benefit from signage improvements to private properties that contribute to a more vibrant and inviting streetscape.
Funding Opportunity
The Town provides up to 50% of the cost of approved signage improvement projects to a maximum municipal contribution of a $2,000 grant. At the sole discretion of the Town, an increased maximum municipal contribution of $4,000 ($4,000 grant) may be provided if the building:
- Has more than one (1) street address or storefront;
- Has more than one (1) wall that is visible from a public street or public space; and/or
- Fronts onto a laneway or parking lot
Eligibility
Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the design and the overall visual improvement to the building and streetscape. Sign designs must be professionally prepared and contribute positively to the surrounding aesthetic. The Town reserves the right to reject any signage proposal that fails to enhance the visual appearance of the area or is otherwise deemed unsuitable.
Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, the following, as determined by the Town:
- Installation of new permanent exterior signage, such as storefront signs, pylon signs, and perpendicular/hanging signs;
- Replacement of outdated or deteriorated exterior signage to improve visibility and appearance;
- Sign fabrication, materials, professional installation (including labour and equipment), and any required engineering, design, or structural assessments to support safe installation; and
- 50% of the applicable sign permit fee, in accordance with Town requirements
Note: A sign permit is required for all signage supported through this program. Window graphics, decals, and similar temporary or non-permanent treatments are not eligible.
