BRACEBRIDGE, ON (June 4, 2026) – The Town of Bracebridge is saddened by the passing of former Mayor Scott Northmore, who passed away peacefully on June 2 at the age of 91.
A dedicated public servant and proud champion of Bracebridge, Scott Northmore served the community for 18 years as a member of Bracebridge Council from 1989 to 2006, including three terms as Mayor. Throughout his years of service, he helped guide the community through a period of significant growth and transformation, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to shape Bracebridge today.
During his time on Council, Mayor Northmore championed major community-building initiatives, including the construction of the Bracebridge Sportsplex and the early planning and development of what is now Peake Fields. He oversaw the continued enhancement of Bracebridge Bay Park, helping establish it as the community’s premiere waterfront gathering space and a destination for residents and visitors alike.

His vision helped advance the growth of key commercial areas in town and he helped stabilize the local economy and support workers during a challenging period of transition. He also helped establish the Town’s Economic Development branch because he knew Bracebridge had great potential and wanted to support it.
Throughout his tenure, Council continued to invest in municipal infrastructure, parks, recreation facilities and community spaces while guiding responsible growth through thoughtful land-use planning.
