Reporting to the Recreation Programmer or designate, the Camp Counsellor is responsible for planning and delivering high quality camp programming that is inclusive, engaging and enjoyable for all camp participants. The Camp Counsellor also maintains a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and is responsible for delivering care, supervision and activities to camp participants.

The Town of Bracebridge is accepting applications and considering candidates with varying levels of experience for the Camp Counsellor positions. In applying for this role, candidates with less experience working with children and youth may be offered a different role within the summer camp program providing valuable support to the Camp Counsellors while gaining the skills and experience required for a future Camp Counsellor position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a high level of care and supervision to camp participants while delivering age-appropriate activities.
  • Ensure the well-being and physical and emotional safety of camp participants by planning, organizing and leading quality activities and providing a safe, fun and rewarding environment.
  • Participate in games and activities to encourage friendship and collaboration amongst participants.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as necessary to support the program as required (i.e., attendance, program schedules, and various reports).
  • Ensure program spaces are safe and clean for patron and camp participant use and provide appropriate supervision at all program facilities/locations.
  • Respond to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations, including assisting with directing patrons to safety.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or in the process of obtaining.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
  • Experience working with children and youth is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a recreation operation is considered an asset.
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development.
  • Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
  • Good written and verbal communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
  • Possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
