Reporting to the Manager of Facilities or designate, the Facility Assistant is responsible for maintaining safe and clear facilities, assembling and disassembling room and event set-ups and performing custodial services to ensure the facilities and equipment are well-maintained and safe to operate and occupy. The Facility Assistant will also perform minor maintenance tasks.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist with minor facilities maintenance, as required.
- Assembles and disassembles room and event set-ups, as required.
- Monitors and maintains a high level of cleanliness within the work area and the facility and perform general custodial duties.
- Assists with and promotes facility events and programs.
- Responds to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations, including assisting and directing patrons to safety.
- Ensure the facility is accessible and clear of obstacles to allow for use of mobility devices and patron safety.
- Communicates safety protocols, guidelines, and rules to patrons and user groups and ensures that they are enforced, including correcting inappropriate or unsafe behaviours with patrons where required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or in the process of obtaining.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C or willingness to become certified.
- Previous custodial experience, including the safe use of a variety of chemicals and industrial cleaning products, and performing general maintenance is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a recreation operation is an asset.
- HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development and HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Aging certification, or willingness to obtain, an asset.
- Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
- Good written and verbal communication, customer service, organization, problem-solving and time management skills.
- Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector policy record check.
- Possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
