Reporting to the Manager of Facilities or designate, the Facility Attendant is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of all department facilities, performing minor maintenance tasks, room and event setups, custodial services, and associated record keeping. The Facility Attendant ensures the facilities and equipment are well-maintained and safe to operate and occupy. Additionally, the Facility Attendant is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of pools and ice in accordance with relevant industry standards and supervision of the facility when working alone.
Position Responsibilities:
- Completes daily logs and checklists, including communication regarding the status of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Ensures the facilities are maintained and cleaned according to established standards. Completes maintenance inspections and performs maintenance and custodial duties as required and where qualified.
- Undertakes pool, ice, and general facility maintenance tasks, including setting up and dismantling of equipment.
- Ensures all work is conducted in compliance with municipal policies, recognized safety practices and health and safety policies.
- Ensures supplies are in stock to maintain the facilities at the established standards.
- Supervises and secures facilities when working alone.
- Assists with and promotes facility events and programs.
- Responds to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations, including assisting with directing patrons to safety.
- Ensures that the facility is accessible and clear of obstacles to allow for use of mobility devices and patron safety.
- Communicates safety protocols, guidelines, and rules to patrons and user groups and ensures that they are enforced, including correcting inappropriate or unsafe behaviours with patrons where required.
- Champions the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and Principles of Healthy Aging whenever possible, understanding their theoretical and practical significance as it relates to delivering high quality and transformative programming to individuals and the community.
- Serves as a positive role model and leader. Models appropriate problem-solving techniques, providing opportunities for patrons to problem solve.
- Provides an environment and activities that foster healthy relationships, celebrates individuals’ successes, and remains engaged and attentive to participant’s needs and requests during all programs engaging them to create a sense of community. Provides an opportunity for participants to be creative, competent, and confident.
- Follows all Town policies and procedures and ensures all health and safety regulations are upheld.
- Provides backup assistance to other staff in the Department, as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Pool Operator and/or Ice Technician Certifications or willingness to obtain, is required.
- General knowledge of equipment, including snowblowers, hand tools, pumps, HVAC systems, and boilers; building maintenance; pool operations; refrigeration equipment maintenance; and ice making, is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a recreational facility, working with chemicals, and cleaning products and performing general maintenance and janitorial services, is considered an asset.
- Working at Heights, Certified Pool Operator Certificate, Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) Certified Ice Technician Designation and/ or a Refrigeration Operator Class B Certificate and HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging certification, or willingness to obtain, an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and rectify and/or report actual and potential safety hazards.
- Good working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Occupiers Liability Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
- Good written and verbal communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
- Possess the physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
- A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing with a current acceptable Driver’s Abstract and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
