Snow squalls continue and extreme cold temperatures in the forecast for Bracebridge

BRACEBRIDGE, ON (January 22, 2026) – Environment Canada’s snow squall warning remains in effect for Bracebridge. Additional snowfall amounts of 30 to 40 cm are forecasted through to Friday morning. This can result in reduced visibility and travel may be hazardous. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve.

Winter road and sidewalk maintenance
Public Works crews are actively monitoring the weather and will continue to perform regular winter maintenance operations on all roads and sidewalks.  As a reminder, vehicles are not permitted to be parked on the road between 2 and 6 a.m. in the winter months.

Bracebridge Transit
Bracebridge Transit buses are operating today, but riders may experience delays due to the weather conditions. Please visit bracebridge.ca/transit for real-time updates.

Be Prepared
In severe weather, road conditions can change in an instant. If you have to travel, make sure you’re prepared to stay safe in any situation with a winter emergency car kit that includes:

  • Flashlights, batteries, jumper cables;
  • Shovel, ice scraper, sand/salt, windshield fluid;
  • Water, non-perishable food, first-aid kit; and
  • Warm clothes, blanket, device charger.

Don’t forget to go slow in the snow. Drive according to the weather conditions, not the posted limits.

Extreme Cold Temperatures
Environment Canada has forecasted extreme cold temperatures for Bracebridge this weekend. Nighttime temperatures are forecasted to reach -31 degrees Celsius with the wind chill.

  • Limit your time outdoors;
  • Watch for cold related symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes;
  • Cover up and dress in layers. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill;
  • Check on vulnerable members of the community; and
  • If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

The following Town of Bracebridge facilities are available as warming stations during regular hours for members of the community to visit for respite from the cold:

Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Friday 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
