Special weather statement issued for Bracebridge – forecasted freezing rain

BRACEBRIDGE, ON (March 10, 2026) – Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning and rainfall warning for Bracebridge. Periods of freezing rain are forecasted to begin tonight or early morning on Wednesday, March 11 and last throughout the day. Bracebridge could receive between 20 to 40 mm of rain with periods of freezing rain bringing 2 to 5 mm of ice accretion.

Precipitation may fall heavily at times, which may lead to localized flooding in low lying areas and potentially hazardous road conditions. Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Local utility outages are possible.

Public Works crews have been servicing roads and will continue to monitor the situation as conditions progress.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Have an emergency kit prepared to support you and your family for a prolonged period of time. This should include batteries, important medications, snacks, water and other lifesaving items;
  • Be prepared for potential power outages. Ensure mobile devices are charged, generators are filled and have flashlights ready;
  • Download and register for the Voyent Alert app to receive location-based notifications to your home phone, mobile device or email.

Power outages may occur due to prolonged periods of freezing rain. For updates, bookmark these links; 

If you see a downed powerline, always assume it is live and deadly. Downed powerlines can electrify the ground around it, so you don’t have to touch the powerline to receive a deadly shock. Stay 10 metres back from the line. Call 9-1-1 and the appropriate power distribution company immediately.

Sandbags
A limited supply of free sand and sandbags is available for filling at the Municipal Office at 1000 Taylor Court for personal use. Sandbags can be placed around lower-level doors and windows to help prevent water from entering a home, or around propane tanks or other vulnerable infrastructure. Private contractors can also provide additional resources and support if necessary.
