Did you know that in less than 20 years, as our population ages, we anticipate that that approximately 20% of people will have disabilities? One in seven people in Ontario have a disability.

The Town of Bracebridge is committed to providing quality service that is accessible to all persons.

Below, is the Customer Service Policy that the Town has adopted.

Accessible Customer Service Policy

The Town is continually looking for ways to improve our services for all members of the public. Complete a Customer Feedback Form if you have ideas on how we can serve you more effectively.

In accordance with the Integrated Accessibility Standards, the Town has adopted an Accessibility Policy.  The link to the policy is found below.

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) provides advice to Council on identifying, preventing and eliminating barriers to people with disabilities in municipal programs, services, initiatives and facilities.

The Committee plays a pivotal role in helping Bracebridge become a barrier-free community and ensuring obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) are met.

Pursuant to Section 12 of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, S.O. 2001 (now found in the AODA), “the Council of every municipality having a population of not less than 10,000 shall establish or continue an accessibility advisory committee and the Council of every municipality having a population of less than 10,000 may establish or continue an accessibility advisory committee”.

The Mandate of the Committee is to:

  1. Advise Council of the requirements and implementation of accessibility standards and the preparation of accessibility reports and other such matters for which Council may seek its advice; 
  2. Provide advice to staff and Council on the development and implementation of Bracebridge’s Multi-Year Accessibility Plan;
  3. Provide feedback on Bracebridge’s annual status update on accessibility; 
  4. Participate in consultation requirements as described under the AODA and its Standards;
  5. Review and provide feedback on municipal development and redevelopment projects as required under the Design of Public Spaces (DOPS) Standard;
  6. Review and provide feedback on selected site plan applications as described in section 41 of the Planning Act; and
  7. Promote awareness of accessibility and inclusion.
