Purbrook Road Bridge Replacement

Purbrook Road Bridge Replacement

Project Overview

The Town of Bracebridge is replacing the Purbrook Road Bridge to ensure safe and reliable access for residents and visitors. The existing bridge, located over McKay Creek, is more than 100 years old and has reached the end of its service life. Following its most recent inspection, full replacement was recommended due to advanced deterioration. Replacing the bridge ensures continued access for the approximately 140 properties located beyond the structure.

This project will deliver a modern, durable structure designed to meet current engineering standards while minimizing environmental impacts and construction disruption.

The new bridge will:

  • Be constructed using precast, prestressed concrete components;
  • Meet modern highway loading standards;
  • Include a cast-in-place concrete deck for durability; and
  • Be designed to withstand weather, moisture, and freeze-thaw cycles.

To minimize environmental impacts and reduce construction complexity, an innovative bridgereplacement approach will be used that allows the existing bridge to remain in place while a new structure is built over and behind. This method helps protect the surrounding natural environment and shortens the time needed for onsite construction.
